Village Boards and Commissions


The Village of Morton is served by the following Boards and Commissions:

Plan Commission

The Plan Commission is comprised of nine Commissioners who are appointed by the President with the consent of the Board of Trustees to serve five-year terms of office.  The Plan Commission is responsible for conducting public hearings on all amendments to the Morton Zoning Ordinance, annexations, planned residential developments, plats, re-zonings, special uses, and subdivisions, and forwarding its findings of fact and recommendations to the Board of Trustees for final action.

Meeting Information: Meetings are held at 7:00 P.M. on the fourth Monday of each month (except in the month of December, when the meeting is held at 6:00 P.M. on the third Monday of the month) at Freedom Hall, 349 West Birchwood Street, Morton, Illinois.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals is comprised of seven Members who are appointed by the President with the consent of the Board of Trustees to serve five-year terms of office.  The Zoning Board of Appeals is responsible for conducting public hearings on and taking final action on all appeals of decisions of the Zoning Enforcing Officer and variances.

Meeting Information: Meetings are held at 6:00 P.M. on the fourth Monday of each month (except in the month of December, when the meeting is held at 5:00 P.M. on the third Monday of the month) at Freedom Hall, 349 West Birchwood Street, Morton, Illinois.

Business District Development & Redevelopment Commission

The Business District Development and Redevelopment Commission is comprised of nine Commissioners who are appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees to serve three-year terms of office.  The non-voting members of the Commission shall consist of a member of the Board of Trustees, with another member of the Board of Trustees serving as an alternate, the Village Administrator and the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Morton Economic Development Council.  The Commission is responsible for preparing policies and procedures pertaining to the administration of any grant or loan program and reviewing applications for assistance for grant or loan programs established pursuant to the Business District Commission Development and Redevelopment Plan and for approval and adoption of the President and Board of Trustees.  The Commission may also make recommendations to the President and Board of Trustees as it may deem necessary to achieve the goals and objectives of the Morton Business District Development and Redevelopment Plan.

Meeting Information: Meetings are held at 4:00 P.M. on the second Wednesday of each month, as needed, at the Morton Police Station, 375 West Birchwood Street, Morton, Illinois.

Board of Fire and Police Commissioners

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is comprised of three Commissioners who are appointed by the President with the consent of the Board of Trustees to serve three-year terms of office.  The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is responsible for the selection, appointment, promotion, discipline, and dismissal of the Village of Morton’s full-time sworn police officers.

Meeting Information: No Regular Meetings.  Meetings are held as needed.  Meetings are held at Morton Police Station, 375 West Birchwood Street, Morton, Illinois.

Board of Trustees of The Morton Volunteer Fire Department Pension Fund

The Board of Trustees of the Morton Volunteer Fire Department Pension Fund is comprised of three Members: the Fire Chief, the chairman of the Fire Committee of the Board of Trustees, and a member of the Morton Volunteer Fire Department who is elected annually by the at-large membership of the Morton Volunteer Fire Department.  It is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees of the Morton Volunteer Fire Department Pension Fund to control and manage the Morton Volunteer Fire Department Pension Fund.

Meeting Information: No Regular Meetings.  Meetings are held as needed.  Meetings are held at Morton Fire Station, 205 West Adams Street, Morton, Illinois.

Board of Trustees of the Police Pension Fund

The Board of Trustees of the Police Pension Fund is comprised of five Members who serve two-year terms of office: two appointed by the President, two elected from the active participants of the Police Pension Fund by such active participants, and one elected by and from the beneficiaries of the Police Pension Fund.  It is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees of the Police Pension Fund to control and manage the Police Pension Fund.

Meeting Information: Meetings are held at 1:00 P.M. on the second Tuesday of the months of January, April, July, and October at Morton Police Station, 375 West Birchwood Street, Morton, Illinois.

Foreign Fire Insurance Board

The Foreign Fire Insurance Board is comprised of three Members who are elected annually by and from the membership of the Morton Volunteer Fire Department.  It is the responsibility of the Foreign Fire Insurance Board to approve the expenditure of monies from the foreign fire insurance company fees received by the Village of Morton for the maintenance, use, and benefit of the Morton Volunteer Fire Department.

Meeting Information: No Regular Meetings.  Meetings are held as needed.  Meetings are held at Morton Fire Station, 205 West Adams Street, Morton, Illinois.
