Morton District 709

Morton District 709 is a unified and highly-acclaimed school district in central Illinois. Morton's District 709 includes both primary schools and high schools, and there are six schools total. These include:

  • Jefferson Elementary School (KG through 6th grade)
  • Morton High School (9th - 12th)
  • Morton Junior High School (7th - 8th)
  • Lincoln Elementary School (KG through 6th grade)
  • Lettie Brown Elementary School (KG through 6th grade)
  • Grundy Elementary School (KG through 6th grade)

Board of Education Behind Morton's District 709

Morton School District 709 is governed by the area's Board of Education. The board has the sole right to make decisions on school governing issues, budget allocation, school policy, curriculum, and other issues. Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, and it's encouraged that the public attend these meetings. The board boasts that the school district retains a 96.4% graduation rate, and 85% of their pupils go on to pursue higher education.

School District Infrastructure

Each school in Morton's District 709 has state-of-the-art computer lab and media center. The board spends a fair share of the budget to improve the infrastructure of schools in the district. Earlier in 2012, the school board added four class rooms to the Lettie Brown, Grundy and Lincoln elementary schools. These types of construction and renovation projects are mainly funded by the existing district funds, operations funds, and capital improvements.

Transportation and Meal Plans

The school district also provides transportation for pupils who reside within one and half miles from their designated school. Specially-priced meal plans are available for pupils who fulfill the income eligibility guidelines and family-size income standards. These standards are set and revised every year by the United States Department of Agriculture.

For example, Morton high school's marching band is quite popular in the state of Illinois. The band was invited to play at the inauguration of U.S. president Barack Obama.
